With the continuous cycle and recycle of fashion trends over the years, I asked myself “what is different about a modern man’s style from what it was say some ten years ago?” For me, asides from edginess; it would have to be the color liberality of our style and wardrobe choices.
A couple of years back, some colors like Pink, Purple, some shades of Yellow, Orange and the list goes on, were being referred to as ‘feminine colors’. This in more ways than one relegated men to being color conservatives.
Considering the rise of Androgynous style as well as the number of fashion items women picked up as trends, calling them ‘boy friend jackets’ ‘boyfriend jeans’ ‘boyfriend shirts’ and their boyfriends’ whole wardrobe basically… I think it is only fair that men broke through the glass ceiling of color conservation and embraced color liberality.
A modern man cannot completely refer to himself as stylish if he refuses to stock his style arsenal with the ammunition of colors, bright colors. Winning the battle against the technicality of color combination remains very key since treading this new waters requires a lot of caution and safety measures as we cannot afford to get it wrong, then they’ll say they gave us an inch and we took nine…
On the details; one of the importance of bright colors in your look is to jazz up the entire look. If it so happens that you are styling it with less dominant colors(which should be the case since you don’t want to start a war) then it should do just that for you. Alternatively; you can have a bright colored top or pant, whichever way you choose to go, make sure the rest of the outfit is composed of complementary masculine colors to balance it out, as well as bring your bright color to life.
Speaking of being careful; I think I am merely getting away with mixing Pin Stripe and Polka dots…
More on the outfit details; I tried to keep the accessories silver, except from my ring of course and it is ‘supposed’ to be a wedding ring so we are not speaking to it. The Polka dots on the tie was what caught my eyes the first time I saw it and so I bought it right away.
No, I did not get the matching socks with it; I always had the socks but once I saw the tie I knew they were meant to be.
I did not think I would be blogging about this look today, this was my Church outfit but once I saw it via Lady Zusi’s lovely camera, the inspiration hit me.
What’s your opinion regarding bright colors for men? What would you like to add or remove if you were to restyle this look? Hit me up lets talk, you know I love your comments.
Thanks for your time, God bless you.
