Hi guys, yes I know…. I’m literally the last person in the world to put up a post about the just concluded Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week. I do not know why I am like this honestly, I don’t know.
Surprisingly, I attended all four days yet the event did not quiet peak for me until the last day…
I this post, I would be recounting my experience from Day 1 – Day 4
HKLFDW Day 1 : It took me quiet a while to adjust to the setting of the new venue, after attending the event for years at a certain place, it took some effort to adjust to the new venue because it was a much larger space and a different setting so if you weren’t careful, you would just get lost in the crowd. I was rather casually dressed, I was going to be doing a lot of running around so I wanted to be as free as possible.
Outfit details; Shirt and bomber (stylebyvalentinoe) Jeans; Abercombie & Fitch, Time Piece; Bulova, Shoes; Reto Francesco, Tote from Jace Bags
The best showcases of the day for me were from Style Temple, Ugo Monye, (Best men’s wear on display that night if you ask me) Kinabuti (I loved the energy that Denrele brought to the showcase) and Ejiro Amos Tafiri as always gave us a wonderful closing.
HKLFDW Day 2: This was actually my second favorite of the 4 days, no it wasn’t the show; it was the mini after party we attended (I know right, lol) and the fact that I had good company for most of the day. I enjoyed the showcases from Gozel Green, “People of Colour” by Papa Omishore, Grey and Loza Maleombho.
I tried to pull off an afro-urban street wear look that came to me, I made thing trench-kimono thing and it was really cool and comfy.
HKLFDW DAY 3: The best designs on display for me were those from Emmy Kasbit, Andrea Iyamah, and Orange Culture yes, I’m sure you are surprised why Mai Atafo did not make the cut, I am too, I felt he just played with the collection since he had a private viewing for WeddingsbyMai, the one on showcase was just a playful collection, I felt Mai trying to connect to the younger audience but I don’t feel enough was done in terms of creativity.
This is not exactly how I planned this look in my head but, oh well…
HKLFDW Day 4: I waited patiently to get to this place to rant… You won’t believe that the tickets I had from Day 1 gave me access to the VIP Lounge, i.e free drinks, (lets just say free alcohol) and I only found out on the last day…. Oh well, I am still pained because those pieces would have looked more beautiful if only…
Let’s just move on… My best designs of the night and the whole fashion week were those from Christe Browne and Gert Johan Coetzee.
I also got my picture taken by Kelechi Amadi Obi (I haven’t got my pictures yet by the way… Uncle Kelechi cannot sly me anyways. The after party was mad fun I tell you, and Jidenna is the real chief by the way!
So guys, that’s my quick review, if you attended the event, I would like to know what the high point for you was and which collections you enjoyed the most.
PS; who would like to attend the event next year? Please leave your comments and lets get talking. love you guys.
